Place Card vs. Awkward Commotion
Place Card vs. Awkward Commotion
Thanksgiving is almost here. It's the time we all treasure getting together with extended family. I have to confess though, whenever I go to someone's home, I am a bit nervous about sitting.
This is because family members usually have favorite chairs and I do not want to be the person that makes the faux pas by sitting in the homeowners official place. Although people try to be nonchalant about it, it becomes obvious at some point during that meal or maybe the visit in the living room, that someone feels out of place. Perhaps it is how everyone looks at each other when you reach to pull out the chair, or the casual mention of how they usually are closer to the kitchen when they try to squeeze by you to bring out dessert.
I try to read the room, look for the well worn chairs to avoid them. I never sit at the head of the table, but mistakes can and often do happen with me. So, I appreciate the assigned seating model with place cards. There may be times that I will not get seated by my preferred table mate, but at least I won’t be talked about for a full year until the next holiday rolls around. I am not sure if this is a “me “problem or more universal, but in any case, err on the side of caution for guests and put out some place cards like these free ones. https://anghildstable.com/collections/freebies
